Trees play a vital role in making North Ridgeville a more livable, sustainable and attractive community. Beyond their natural beauty, trees improve air and water quality, reduce energy costs, manage stormwater runoff and provide habitat for wildlife. They also boost property values and support local economic development by enhancing the appeal of neighborhoods and commercial areas. North Ridgeville’s Master Tree Plan outlines the city’s commitment to the strategic planting, preservation and care of trees in public spaces—helping ensure a greener, healthier future for all. Key goals include:
- Tree Planting: Increase planting to combat extreme heat, improve air quality and support public health. Trees are more than shade, they’re part of our environmental resilience.
- Care and Maintenance: Ensure our trees stay healthy and safe through proactive, science-based management. Older trees bring greater value and proper care helps preserve that.
- Urban Forest Management: Create a strategic framework to manage all city trees from parks and streets to business areas with coordinated planning and data collection.
- Public Education and Outreach: Encourage community involvement by sharing the value of trees. A sustainable urban forest thrives when residents are engaged and informed.
Among our implementation efforts, the city has begun educational outreach via social media and our website. We have begun training our public works employees in safety and in proper arboricultural practices. Finally, we are working to make North Ridgeville a proud member of Tree City USA!
