Dear North Ridgeville residents,
The first 6 weeks as Lorain County Commissioner and President of the Board have been busy and exciting. I am pleased to announce after reviewing the CARES Act expenditures spreadsheet, I noticed that there were significant allocations made to the Veterans, but the payments had not been made. After investigating the matter, it was found that the previous Board pulled the money back from the Veteran’s. Upon review, the CARES Act money was still available to the Veterans Commission and I created a resolution to distribute the funds. Checks for a total of $288K will be going out to the Veteran’s Commission in the next 2 weeks that can be used for the services they provide.
We have a history of providing our Veteran’s Commission with the funds they need that provide critical services for them in Lorain County. A few of the things they provide is helping Veteran’s get to medical appointments such as dialysis, heart procedures and routine care. They employ several drivers who provide rides and stay and wait with them while they are at their appointments. The Veteran’s Commission provides transportation, financial assistance, housing assistance, grocery voucher assistance and gasoline voucher assistance for Veteran’s seeking employment. The Lorain County Veterans Service office also has computers available for Veteran’s to work on their resume and job placement assistance.
The 3-year approved budget history of our Lorain County Veterans Service Commission is as follows: 2018- $2,503,700.00 2019- $2,458,200.00 2020- $2,583,200.00
For 2020, the Veteran’s received a budget of $2,583,200.00 and the additional $288K of CARES Act Funds, for a grand total of over $2,871,200.00. In Lorain County, we have, and always will take care of our Veterans.
