School will start in North Ridgeville on Aug. 19.
The North Ridgeville City Schools released Back to School Strategies today in a letter from Supt. Roxann Ramsey-Caserio.
“The 2021-2022 school year begins Thursday, August 19, for students in grades 1-12 and Tuesday, August 24, for students in grades Pre-K-Kindergarten. I am excited to welcome our students back to school in person five days a week,” she reports.
Lorain County Public Health (LCPH) and the Ohio Department of Health (ODH) have released guidance regarding students’ return to school.
In part, those who can get the COVID-19 vaccine are encouraged to be vaccinated, and those who cannot be are encouraged to wear a mask.
“As we welcome back our students and staff to school, we are aligning with LCPH and the ODH in strongly encouraging those who are unvaccinated to wear masks. Anyone is free to wear a mask to school if he or she so chooses. Per federal law, wearing masks on school buses is required for all students and staff. As has been the case throughout the pandemic, mask guidance is subject to change based upon the most recent health orders provided to the district.”

“Upon arrival at school, we expect classrooms to have a similar layout that was applied before the pandemic. Where we can, efforts will be made to encourage physical distancing, but due to our current enrollment and staffing levels, we will not be able to ensure the previously suggested physical distance guidelines in every space,” reports the Supt. “However, the district will continue to provide enhanced handwashing stations and encourage students and staff to engage in healthy practices.”
Other frequently asked questions by parents/guardians:
● Free breakfast and lunch will be available for all students without application. However, families who believe they qualify for free or reduced school fees must still apply.
● The district will continue to offer before and aftercare options for parents 45 minutes before school and one hour after school for the 2021-2022 school year.
● The district will return to traditional open house formats. Open house dates are on the district website.
The North Ridgeville City Schools are committed to being transparent and will communicate often with families, staff, and the community about any changes made by the district due to health and safety protocols implemented by the county and state.
