LPLS Programming June 7 to June 21:

DIY Oceans of Possibility Activities for Kids: Monday, June 6 through Saturday, Aug. 6, Avon Branch – Celebrate the 2022 Summer Reading Program theme, “Oceans of Possibilities.” Have fun with a different surprise DIY craft or learning activity for kids each week during regular library hours. While supplies last.

Summer Lunch for Kids: 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. at the South Lorain Branch, 1 to 2 p.m. at the Main Library, Noon to 1 p.m. at the Domonkas Branch – The Lorain Public Library System is participating in the Summer Food Service Program. Ages 18 and under are invited to come to lunch Monday through Friday all summer long, except Monday, July 4 when the branches are closed.

Legos & Lunch: Tuesdays, June 14, 21, 28; 12:30 p.m., South Lorain Branch – Calling all kids! Join us every Tuesday during summer vacation for Lunch and Legos. Lunch will be provided by the Summer Food Service Program, and we will have a different Lego Challenge every week.

Maker‑in‑Residence: Open Studio Hours: Tuesdays, June 7, 14, 21, 28; 2:30 to 4:30 p.m., North Ridgeville Branch – Stop in and visit with our current Maker‑in‑Residence, music producer Fayaven Barbee Jr., and learn about his techniques and methods as he works on songwriting, recording and more.

Golden Grab Bag: Euclid Beach Park: Wednesday, June 8; 10 to 11 a.m., Domonkas Branch – Seniors, join us for a series of programs designed specifically for you! Learn about the attractions, food, and rides at Euclid Beach Park during the time of its operation from 1895 through 1969 and why this Park has so many special memories for so many in Northeast Ohio. Summer Reading Kick‑Off: Wednesday, June 8; 2 to 3 p.m., Little Library on the Lake – Get the family signed up for the Summer Reading Program and take our toys for a test‑drive. Weather permitting.

Maker‑In‑Residence Workshop: Tune Talk for School Age Children: Wednesday, June 8; 2:30 to 3:30 p.m., North Ridgeville Branch – Join local music producer Fayaven Barbee Jr. to learn about Auto‑Tune, one of music production’s biggest tools. Learn how scales work and explore how plug‑in manipulates keep vocals in tune at all times. Follow a prompt to write part of a song, and the entire group will leave with an original piece. This program is designed for students going into grades 4 through 8. Preregistration required.

Summer Carnival Kickoff: Wednesday, June 8; 2:30 to 3:30 p.m., Main Library – Join us as we kick off the beginning of this year’s Summer Library Program at our super‑fun summer carnival. Enjoy fun games with prizes, crafts, delicious carnival food and more! Preregistration required.

Family Gardening Program: Saturdays, June 11, 18, 25; 4 to 5:30 p.m., South Lorain Branch – Join us every Saturday afternoon June through August for our Family Gardening Program. We will start out with a story, move into working in our community garden, and finish out with a garden related snack. All ages welcome. Senior Reading Buddies Volunteering: Mondays, June 13, 27; 1 to 2 p.m., North Ridgeville Branch – The North Ridgeville Branch Library, in partnership with the North Ridgeville Senior Center and North Park and Rec, is looking for senior volunteers—ages 50 and older—to participate in our Senior Reading Buddies program. Senior Reading Buddies is a 60‑minute program combining shared reading, a craft, and bingo. Each senior will be paired with one or two school‑age students to assist them in practicing their reading skills. Preregistration required.

City Fresh Produce Pick‑Ups: Tuesdays, June 14, 21, 28; 4 to 6 p.m., Main Library, South Lorain Branch – City Fresh is a Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) program working to create access to fresh, local vegetables for all. With a weekly payment, participants receive a grab bag of the freshest seasonal produce, known as a “share.” Shares come in Single or Family sizes and are offered at tiered prices. You can experience the many benefits of yoga without having to get up or down from the floor. Bilingual Financial Education and First Time Homebuyer Classes: Thursdays, June 16, 23, 30; July 7; 5:30 to 7:30 p.m., South Lorain Branch – These bilingual classes focus on improving financial literacy, understanding credit, and the homebuying process. El Centro will offer future homebuyers a four‑week bilingual course focused on personal finance, budgeting, and the steps of the homebuying process. El Centro is certified by the US Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) to provide individual financial counseling and first‑time homebuyer education. It is our main goal and priority to work with the residents of Lorain County to become more financially literate, overcome homeownership barriers, and achieve financial security. Covering everything from well‑known painters like Van Gogh and Picasso to different art styles like Pop Art and Pointillism.
