School may be out for the young ones but “school is never out for the pro”!

Also one is never too old to learn something new.

It may be harder to learn new things as you get older as our eyes, ears, and other parts of our body do not function as good as they did when we were younger. It may take longer to learn something new, but one thing older folks usually have is time. I personally like the challenge of learning something new.

I do like to be good, or maybe even great at a particular task so sometimes that keeps me from trying something new. What do I have to lose? Is it better to have regret from failing or never having tried.

Being a Councilperson has been a real learning experience but I have found it very challenging. I have loved learning more about politics and the inner workings of a growing city like ours. I certainly do not know everything about our city but I also am not afraid to ask. I am not ashamed that I do not know as much as someone who has been on council for many more years than me.

I am thankful that I have learned many skills of technology in the last several years, although frequently I ask someone younger than me for help. Learning keeps your brain sharp and allows you to be confident in carrying on a conversation with others. I am so excited about all the machines at the library as there will be a lot of learning to be done there. I just think of how proud I will be when I “create” something in that space. I might even get so good that I will be able to teach others.

If I sound excited it is because I definitely am. Hope to see you there someday and we will both learn something new together! What else would you like to learn that you did not have time for in your younger days? I know there is a whole world of possibilities out there!
