Before the Holidays, Protect Yourself and Others

Get Flu and COVID-19 Vaccines from Lorain County Public Health or Your Local Provider

As colder weather and holiday gatherings approach, Lorain County Public Health (LCPH) reminds residents to protect themselves and their loved ones by getting vaccinated against flu and COVID-19. Vaccines often tame these viruses to prevent their worst outcomes, like hospitalization and death.

A yearly flu vaccine is the best way to prevent severe illness for everyone 6 months and older. Staying up to date on COVID-19 vaccination lowers the risk of severe illness, hospitalization, and death — especially during pregnancy, people with certain medical conditions like diabetes, lung disease, heart disease, kidney disease, weakened immune systems, and older adults.

  • Flu vaccines are recommended for everyone 6 months and older.
  • COVID-19 vaccines are recommended for eligible people 6 months and older.

Flu and COVID-19 vaccines are available at LCPH, 9880 Murray Ridge Rd., Elyria, Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. The Vaccine Clinic is closed daily from noon to 1 p.m. To schedule an appointment, call 440-284-3206 or visit loraincountyhealth.com/vaccines.

In addition to vaccination, simple everyday habits can help prevent illness. “Washing your hands, covering coughs and sneezes, and staying home when you’re sick can go a long way in protecting yourself and others,” said Mark Adams, MPH, REHS, Health Commissioner at LCPH.

LCPH also provides weekly local data to help residents make informed decisions during respiratory disease season. From October through May, LCPH updates the Respiratory Disease Activity Dashboard every Thursday at loraincountyhealth.com/data. Schedule your vaccination today to help protect yourself, your family, and the community throughout the holiday season.
