As colder temperatures settle in, trees begin their dormant season—but that doesn’t mean they’re maintenance-free. Now is a great time to:
- Check for broken or hanging limbs after heavy wind or snow
- Apply a light layer of mulch to help insulate roots and retain moisture
- Avoid piling snow or salt near tree bases—both can damage bark and root systems
- Mark newly planted trees with a stake or flag so snowplows and equipment can avoid them
Our Arborist also reminds residents that winter is a good time to schedule pruning for many tree species. With leaves gone, structural issues are easier to see and tree stress is reduced.
If you’re considering pruning, planting or have concerns about a tree, reach out to the City Arborist for guidance.
Let’s help our trees rest well this winter so they can flourish in spring!
