Monthly thoughts from Councilwoman at Large Georgia Awig
As I begin a new chapter in my life, I find myself reflecting on all the chapters that came before—each age, each school I attended, the places I’ve lived, the jobs I’ve held, and the friends I’ve made along the way. My life story is uniquely mine, just as yours is uniquely yours. Every story has a beginning and an ending, and what lies in between is the journey. I’ve always tried to enjoy that journey at every stage, knowing we never truly know when the end may be near.
As I imagine what this next chapter might look like, I keep returning to my core priorities: faith, family, fitness, and friends. I intend to focus my time and energy on the activities that nurture those parts of my life. I am genuinely excited about 2026 and beyond. It will be another meaningful chapter—one in which my husband and I can do exactly what we love, when we choose to do it. I will no longer have commitments except those I make for myself.
Some of you may have already experienced this sense of freedom—perhaps when you left a job or after the loss of a spouse. After 51 years, I am grateful that my husband and I continue to see eye to eye on most things. After all, he knows that “a happy wife makes a happy life.”
I’m looking forward to everything the next year will bring.
What are your priorities, and what are you looking forward to in the months ahead?
