JVS Supt. Dr. Glenn Faircoth appeared at a recent North Ridgeville Chamber of Commerce breakfast in support of JVS Issue 14. Established in 1971, the Lorain County JVS is one of the most recognized career-technical facilities in the state of Ohio, offering some of the most exemplary, nationally accredited career development programs in the region. Issue 14, if passed, will add a modest additional cost of about $2/month to property owners for each $100,000 of property value.
The Issue 14 Lorain County JVS Initiative is on the Nov. 5 ballot, asking voters to support one of the region’s most important educational and career training resources.
The Lorain County JVS, founded in 1971, provides career and technical education for both the high school and adult populations of Lorain County and surrounding communities. Through the many specialized programs offered, high school and adult learners gain the technical skills, knowledge and training necessary to be successful in high-demand careers.
Know the Facts: The Lorain County JVS November 5 Ballot Issue
Residents in the Lorain County JVS District will vote on a ballot issue this November 5:
- A 0.66 permanent improvement (PI) levy (for a ten year period) that will fund safety, technology and building upgrades to the district’s facilities. The additional cost to property owners will be about $2/month for every $100,000 of property value.
Additional funding from this levy would allow JVS to:
- Make needed upgrades to the building so it can accommodate advanced technologies used to prepare students for high-demand careers
- Ensure there is enough functional classroom space to be able to continue to provide training to the thousands students enrolled at the school, who come from every part of Lorain County
- Add pipes and water access needed to install sprinkler systems for fire suppression
- Reinforce the structure of the building, which is nearly 50 years old
- Add safety systems to prevent unauthorized intrusions during the school day
- Install climate systems and air handlers so the labs can continue to be safely used for training students
- Without additional funding, the JVS will have to continue to divert funds from the classroom and training to make essential repairs to the building to best ensure its function and safety
