Will on-site schooling at the high school be available in the fall?
Whether or not there will be on-site learning in the fall in any of the District’s buildings is still unknown. It is the District’s hope that in-person learning will be able to begin in the fall but we are awaiting final guidance prior to finalizing any plans.
What social distancing/safety measures plan to be put in place at schools and on the bus if we choose to have our student physically attend? Will students be required to wear masks all day if they return to school?
Social distancing and additional safety measures including the wearing of masks have yet to be determined. The District anticipates having final guidance from the health department, Ohio Department of Education, and the governor’s office in the near future which will guide these decisions. The District is committed to making the health and safety of students and staff a top priority.
Will we know the classroom guidelines and what everything will look like in schools before the July deadline?
The District is still awaiting final guidelines from the health department, Ohio Department of Education, and governor’s office. Once the District receives final guidance, we hope to quickly finalize plans and guidelines for next year and share them with families so each can make the best decision for their unique situation. Based upon the most recent information we have received, we are hopeful that plans can be shared prior to July 10. The District will continue to monitor information over the coming weeks and will look to adjust timelines if appropriate.
What will bussing look like in the fall?
Similar to returning to school, the District is still awaiting guidance on bussing.
If my student attends Ranger High-Tech Academy and we want him to be online, will he lose his spot at RHTA?
No, students from Ranger High-Tech Academy who elect to attend online will not lose their spots at RHTA.
Would Ranger High-Tech Academy curriculum still be separate as a STEM education or would all online learning be combined?
It is the District’s intention to continue to offer STEM education and Project Based Learning to the fullest extent. At this time, there is no plan to combine all online learning.
Would the student have to change their schedule to fit what can be taken online?
If a student elects to attend school through the online program, there may be some changes to a student’s schedule, as not every in-person course can be offered online. The District is currently working through what courses can be offered online and are exploring additional options for courses which do not translate well online.
Will students be able to participate in marching band and sports (if they are taking place) if they attend online school?
Decisions about specific courses are still being worked out at this time. Students who choose to be online will be able to participate in extracurricular activities should they choose and should those activities occur. If a student wishes to participate in athletics, he/she will still be required to meet all eligibility guidelines established by the OHSAA and the District.
If we decide we want online learning, but then we change our minds, do we get to go back to regular classes?
Parents who select the online option for the 2020-2021 school year are being asked to commit to the first semester at this time. In November, parents will need to make a decision as to staying remote for the second semester or returning to a building. High school students may need to make schedule adjustments based on what can and can not be offered in an online environment. The District is finalizing a list of course offerings for students who wish to be online for the 2020-2021 school year.
Will there be an opportunity to sign up for online learning in January for those families that chose not to start out online, but then feel the need to move to online the second half of the year?
Parents are being asked to make a decision about online learning one semester at a time. It is likely that when the registration opens for the second semester in November, parents who did not choose to be online for semester one will be able to register for semester two, which begins in January.
Will attendance and participation be pressed more during the new year?
Students who elect to be online for the 2020-2021 school year will be following the same District guidelines as if they were in person. Students will be expected to attend all regularly scheduled class meetings and will be considered absent if they do not attend.
What will happen with children with IEP’S?
If a student has an IEP and wishes to participate in online learning, the student will still be serviced via a teacher and intervention specialist as outlined in the IEP. Due to the change in service location, it is likely there may be a need to amend the student’s IEP. All IEP amendments are team decisions and a team meeting would be scheduled to discuss.
Are the kids at home going to be watching a live stream of the class or will it be a separate presentation?
There are two primary methods for delivering online instruction. In the first, and what will likely be the most common, a teacher will work with a group of students who are always entirely remote. In the second, a teacher would work with a group of students who are in person and a group of students who are remote at the same time with the in-class lesson being live streamed to the remote class. Regardless of which model is used, remote students should expect to be interactive. Which of these models will be used will be determined by the District based upon a number of factors.
We have three kids in different grades, do we have to make the same decision for all of them or could we send two to school and have one be online only (or one to school and two online only, etc)?
Choosing to attend online is a decision that can be made for each individual student.
How is tuition being charged for full-day Kindergarten students? Will it even exist?
