North Ridgeville City Schools Will Maintain Current Learning Format for All of 20-21 School Year

At the March 2, 2021, Board of Education meeting, the North Ridgeville City Schools announced the district will remain in the current learning format for the remainder of the 2020-21 school year.

“The North Ridgeville City Schools believe it was essential to offer parents the opportunity to provide input about the possibility of returning to school in-person five days a week,” Superintendent Roxann Ramsey- Caserio said. “The district thoroughly considered families’ thoughts and concerns and ultimately decided to remain in the current learning format for the remainder of the school year.”

Ramsey-Caserio noted three primary concerns of parents and the return to school in-person five days a week: consistency of student scheduling, overall timing, and physical distancing.

Had a decision been made to transition to in-person instruction five days a week, the earliest this would have been possible was sometime in April. This transition would have required an extension to the existing spring break schedule by at least two weeks in order to prepare district facilities for full in-person instruction.

Also, a return to full in-person learning would have necessitated significant student scheduling changes. Many students would have been assigned new teachers regardless of whether or not they chose to change their learning format. This would have required both students and teachers to build new relationships with just weeks left in the school year.
Ramsey-Caserio stated the North Ridgeville City Schools are currently planning for the 2021-2022 school year.

“The district will frequently communicate with families regarding the planning for next year,” Ramsey-Caserio said. “Our goal is to have students return to school full time and in-person five days a week. We understand the importance of students’ mental health and engaging with their peers plays a pivotal role. The North Ridgeville City Schools are committed to providing a sense of normalcy for our students and staff for the 2021-2022
school year.”
