Lorain Public Library System Upcoming Events

Story Stop on Facebook LiveMondays, June 7, 14, 21, 28; 10:30 to 11 a.m. • Tuesdays, May 25; June 1, 8, 15, 22, 29; 6:30 to 7 p.m. – Enjoy stories, songs, and activities from the comfort of your own home. Our songs may feature shaky eggs, rhythm sticks, or scarves. There’s a lot of things around your home that you can use to sing and dance. Our storytellers will even recommend some easy and accessible props.

Baby and Me Story Time on Facebook Live Thursdays, May 27; June 3, 10, 17, 24; 10:30 to 11 a.m. – This story time is intended for babies, birth through 18 months, or early walkers, with their caregivers.

Story Time in the Woods Fridays, May 28; 10:30 to 11 a.m. at Every Child’s Playground, 36265 Detroit Road in Avon • Tuesdays, June 1, 15; 6:30 to 7 p.m. and 7:15 to 7:45 p.m. in Pavilion 2 at South Central Park, 7565 Avon Belden Road in North Ridgeville – Music, movement activities and play will accompany nature‑themed stories. Dress for the weather and bring a blanket. In case of inclement weather, this event will be canceled. Masks and social distancing will be required to attend these events this spring. Preregistration required.

Memorial Day – All branches of the Lorain Public Library System will be closed on May 31 in observance of Memorial Day. Items that would be due that day can be returned in the exterior book drops or the following day during regular business hours. Our eLibrary is open 24/7, 365 days a year at LorainPublicLibrary.org.

Pet Supply Drive – Help those animals in local shelters waiting for their forever homes. All of the Lorain Public Library System branches will collect your donations through the month of June. Drop off new cat and dog toys, blankets, all kinds of cat and dog food, kitty litter or even cleaning supplies. Call or stop in for a more detailed list of needed supplies.

Teen Photo Scavenger Hunt – Join our photo scavenger hunt! Pick up a scavenger hunt map at any of our six branches and snap pictures of the listed items. Once completed, return to the library to receive a prize while supplies last. Hunt runs the month of June.

Summer Lunch for Kids12:30 to 1:30 p.m. South Lorain Branch, 1 to 2 p.m. Main Library – Ages 18 and under are invited to come to lunch Monday through Friday all summer long!

Veggie Tails on Facebook Wednesday, June 2; 10 a.m. – Learn about the importance of vegetables and the fun ways to eat them.

Resume Writing and Cover Letters (Zoom) Wednesday, June 2; 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. – This virtual program will teach you how to write a resume and attention‑grabbing cover letter for your online job search! Plus, find out how you can get free professional clothes! Preregistration required.

Story Time on the LawnThursdays, June 3, 17; 10:30 to 11 a.m. and 11:15 to 11:45 a.m., North Ridgeville Branch – Offered on the library’s west lawn. Music, movement activities and play will accompany nature‑themed stories. Dress for the weather and bring a blanket. In case of inclement weather, this event will be canceled. Please register all attendees – including adults and caregivers. Preregistration required.

Cooking with Charlie for Kids (Facebook) Friday, June 4; 3 p.m. – We use our portable Charlie Cart kitchen to demonstrate how to make kid‑friendly snacks!

Browser’s Reading BuddiesSaturdays, June 5; 10 to 11 a.m., Avon Branch – Children ages 5 to 10 are invited to read to a therapy dog in the library. Please register your child and we will contact you with a specific 15-minute reading time. Bring a book or come early and select one to read. Preregistration required.

Outback Ray’s Amazing Outdoor Animal ShowMonday, June 7; 3 to 4 p.m. at South Lorain Branch • Tuesday, June 8; 3 to 4 p.m. at South Central Park across from the North Ridgeville Branch • Tuesday, June 8; 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. at Avon Branch – Be ready for an interactive, educational and exciting time! Perfect for families with children of all ages. Please bring a blanket to sit on. Masks are required for all library events.

Virtual Summer Reading Kick‑off Party (Zoom)Monday, June 7; 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. – Families, join us for a fun, action packed party to start off your library summer reading adventure right! Preregistration required.

Storytime in the ParkTuesdays, June 8, 22; July 13, 27; Aug. 3; 10 a.m. – Offered in the park next to the Columbia Branch. Preregistration required.
