North Ridgeville Review The Community That Cares
Issue 11 is a 20 year, 0.81mil bond issue that would fund the building of a new Police Department. “You want me to pay more taxes!? What’s wrong with the one we’ve got?” Before you start making plans to throw a box of Earl Grey in South Central Pond, let us give you a little bit of background:
– The current PD was built in 1975. 25 years ago, an addition was built as a “seven year fix”.
– At 23.6 Sq miles, North Ridgeville is the 2nd largest city in Lorain County (behind Lorain) and the 26th largest city in the state of Ohio.
– North Ridgeville’s population is 35,280. That’s the third most in the county. North Ridgeville is routinely ranked in the upper echelons of fastest growing cities in Ohio. This should come as no surprise to anyone who drives through the city and sees all the new houses popping up.
– NRPD employs 42 Officers. That’s 1 Officer per 840 residents. That’s a larger ratio than Avon, Avon Lake, Westlake, Elyria, Lorain, and North Olmsted.
– Safewise ranked North Ridgeville the 6th safest city in Ohio for 2021. In 2020 we were the 17th safest and in 2019 we were the 5th safest.
– The current Police Department requires constant maintenance. It predates body cameras, interview room recorders, typed reports, and yes, even the internet. The roof, floors, and HVAC have all required major repairs recently to keep them serviceable.
I know what you’re thinking, “That’s great but how much is this going to cost me?” Here’s a breakdown based on the value of your home:
- $100,000 – $2.36/mo ($28.34/yr)
- $200,000 – $4.72/mo ($56.68/yr)
- $300,000 – $7.08/mo ($85.01/yr)
For a $200,000 house, skip lunch at Chipotle once every two months, or the large iced coffee at Dunkin’ once a month, and it’s covered.
