Area students from Olde Towne Hall Theatre recently captured national awards and other honors at the 2022 Junior Theater Festival in Atlanta.
The weekend competition, with a focus on to student-driven musical theater programs, was held online and in-person Jan. 14-16 in Atlanta, Ga.
Groups were permitted to perform 15 minutes of a Broadway Junior musical for judges.
Olde Towne Hall Theatre won the “Freddie G” award for Excellence in Dance and student Emerson Freas won a “Freddie G” award for Outstanding Student Direction and Choreography, the release said.
Olde Towne Hall Theatre is North Ridgeville’s award-winning community theatre at 36119 Center Ridge Road.
The theater company has won awards at past Junior Theater Festivals including 2018 and 2019, as well as individual recognition for students,
The Junior Theater Festivals are produced by iTheatrics and the Junior Theater Group.

A tuneful, heartwarming story, it is based on the real life story of the Von Trapp Family singers, one of the world’s best-known concert groups in the era immediately preceding World War II. Maria, the tomboyish postulant at an Austrian abbey who becomes a governess in the home of a widowed naval captain with seven children, and brings a new love of life and music into the home.
