Reading to the Rescues: Tuesday, Aug. 9; 12:30 to 2:30 p.m., Berea Animal Rescue, 10015 W. River Road in Columbia Station – Children can register for a specific 30-minute time slot to sit and read to the cats sheltered at the Berea Animal Rescue. This provides the cats with socialization and enrichment while giving children an opportunity to build their reading confidence and fluency. City Fresh Produce Pick‑Up: Tuesdays, Aug. 9, 16, 23, 30; Sept. 6, 13, 20, 27; Oct. 4, 11, 18, 25; 4 to 6 p.m., Main Library and South Lorain Branch – City Fresh is a Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) program working to create access to fresh, local vegetables for all. With a weekly payment, participants receive a grab bag of the freshest seasonal produce, known as a “share.” Shares come in Single or Family sizes and are offered at tiered prices. Learn how scales work and explore how plug‑in manipulates keep vocals in tune at all times. Follow a prompt to write part of a song, and the entire group will leave with an original piece. Inspired by the book What We Keep: 150 People Share the One Object that Brings Them Joy, Magic, and Meaning by Bill Shapiro and Naomi Wax, participants are invited to read the book, bring a meaningful object and briefly share about the object that means the most to them. Shipwrecks of Lake Erie: Tuesday, Aug. 23; 6:30 to 7:30 p.m., South Lorain Branch – This talk follows the entire stream of the archaeologist, from research, to discovery, to investigation, and finally to analysis and publication. Along the way examples of Lake Erie shipwrecks are used to highlight each step. Presented by the National Museum of the Great Lakes. Preregistration required.
