On Monday, August 21, 2023, at the North Ridgeville City Schools staff convocation, the district honored High School Head Custodian Mr. Roger Fleming and Third Grade Teacher Mrs. Gail Rottari with awards for Staff Member of the Year for the 2022-2023 school year. We are grateful for their dedication to the district, our students, and the community.
Roger was first hired as a substitute custodian in 2013 and quickly moved into the night custodian role. By 2014, Mr. Fleming became the Head Custodian at the High School where he remains today. Before coming to the North Ridgeville City Schools, Roger retired from the Maintenance Department at Elyria City Schools. Last year, Roger was nominated for staff member of the month nearly every month by different colleagues throughout the year. Some remarks made on his behalf include “Roger goes above and beyond his daily duties greeting students with a smile and a “Have a great day!” He takes such pride in the high school, doing his best to make this building the best it can be.” A first year teacher had this to say about Roger, “Since my very first day at NRHS, Roger has been so welcoming, kind and helpful when I needed it. He has become a friendly and familiar face to me very quickly and really made me feel comfortable here in North Ridgeville. He exemplifies hard work, kindness and family.” Congratulations, Roger, and thank you for your dedication to your students, staff and families.
Gail was hired in June of 2013 as a Second Grade Teacher at Liberty Elementary. Gail moved to Third Grade at the Academic Center for the 2017-2018 school year and remains in this position today. Gail was nominated by one of her colleagues who had this to share: “I am delighted to nominate Gail Rottari for recognition as an outstanding teacher. As a grade level chair, Gail has consistently demonstrated her commitment to student success and staff support. Her tireless advocacy for her students has ensured that they receive the best education possible, and her willingness to go above and beyond in supporting her colleagues has helped to create a positive and supportive work environment. One of the things that sets Gail apart is her consistent positive attitude. She approaches every challenge with optimism and a can-do spirit, inspiring those around her to do the same. She is always quick to offer words of encouragement, praise, and support, and her genuine caring and concern for others have made her a beloved figure among her students, colleagues, and community.
In conclusion, Gail Rottari is a true asset to our school and our community. She is an outstanding teacher who has made a lasting impact on the lives of her students and colleagues. Her dedication, hard work, and positive attitude are an inspiration to us all.” Congratulations, Gail, and thank you for the energy and passion you put into your work.
