Monthly thoughts from Councilwoman at Large Georgia Awig
Since we just started a new year, I have been thinking about New Year’s Resolutions. I say, why wait until the new year to change things within your life. If you can make your life better today or tomorrow, why not start now.
It all starts with a decision. I feel there are few things that one cannot change in today’s world. Even though you can change almost anything, there probably are things you should not change. Why not make it a habit to be happy with what you have and be thankful for your many blessings. The best resolution to have every day is to be happy and that is entirely within one’s control. When you are happy, you are capable of making others happy. Would you rather be around a happy person or someone who is unhappy all the time?
Why not be a “change agent” and why not start with yourself? If I become unhappy with a situation, I try to think of ways that are within my power to change the situation. Some times all I need to do is change my attitude. Sometimes I may need to think different thoughts and I may need someone to help me with that. I really try not to put off until tomorrow, things which I can do today. Just remember any change can start with just one step.
What can you do today to change your life tomorrow? In other words, since we have already started the new year, it is never too late to make a resolution which is a firm decision to do or not to do something. Since we all can be forgetful from time to time, it might be helpful to write down your resolutions and look at them daily as a reminder. Everyone makes promises to others, why not make a promise to yourself and hold yourself accountable.
I know it can be challenging, but if anyone can do it, you can! Just believe in yourself!
