Amazing Shake Winners: Cole Minich (24), Najha Malid (23), Jaina Cormack (23) and Lydia Scheiferstein (23)
In an exciting twist on the traditional Amazing Shake competition, the LCCC Ridge Campus hosted the innovative “Flip the Script” event last month. Designed to test and enhance essential interpersonal skills, the event invited parents and community members to step into the spotlight while answering interview questions, holding meaningful conversations, and advocating for themselves.
For the last three years, all North Ridgeville City School seventh graders have participated in the Amazing Shake competition, originally created by the Ron Clark Academy. Students compete in various challenges to demonstrate soft skills like communication, professionalism, and poise. However, the “Flip the Script” event turned the tables, providing an engaging and educational experience for everyone involved.
At various stations set up throughout the campus, participants faced a range of scenarios designed to test their abilities. These stations included mock interviews, impromptu conversation prompts, and self-advocacy exercises. One station, dubbed “Interview Lane,” tasked participants with responding to common job interview questions. Another, “Conversation Circle,” focused on the art of small talk and maintaining engaging dialogue.
Parents and community members embraced the challenge, appreciating the opportunity to step into their children’s shoes and gain a firsthand understanding of the skills being taught in schools. One parent commented, “It was great to experience what the students went through in the Amazing Shake(competition). This is a great learning experience for all.”
