December 5, 9 a.m. – Pearl Harbor Remembered: On December 7, 1941, in less than ninety minutes, Japanese planes destroyed or damaged 19 U.S. warships and 300 aircraft, and killed over 2,400 U.S. servicemen, catapulting the United States into the milieu of WWII. Local historian Steve Pettyjohn will present on this historic event that lives in infamy.

Upcoming Outings and Meet Ups: Pierogis, Strudel & Schnitzel! Thursday, December 5, 10:30 a.m. – 3 p.m. $5. We will tour Rudy’s Bakery to see how pierogis are made, then we will go to Das Schnitzel Haus for lunch. Time permitting, we will make some additional stops in the area. Registration begins Wednesday, November 13 at 1 p.m. Great Lakes Theater: A Christmas Carol: Thursday, December 12, 10 a.m. – 3 p.m. $25. In A Christmas Carol, Dickens decries materialism in favor of generosity and social responsibility. The enduring popularity of the story is grounded in his faith in the idea of change. Dickens portrays the obstacle to change as the paralyzing fear of giving up something and being somehow diminished in the process. After the play we will stop for lunch (not included) before returning to the Center. Registration begins Wednesday, December 6 at 1 p.m. Cocoa, Lights & Friends: Wednesday, December 18, 6:45 – 9 p.m. $8. Start the evening with some treats, then board the bus to tour some of the fabulous light displays in the area. We will end with the drive through display at the Cuyahoga County fairgrounds and several neighborhoods who are known for their holiday lights. Registration begins Wednesday, November 20 at 1 p.m.

Try It Out Tuesdays: Have you ever thought about ordering that Thai chicken dish on the menu but were too afraid you wouldn’t like it? Or maybe you just want to try something new. In this series, we will explore a variety of less common or international food items in a comfortable, no risk setting. This will be an ongoing series on the fourth Tuesday of the month at 12 p.m. October 22 – German Heritage Month; November 26 – Vegan Thanksgiving (give it a try, you might be surprised!); December 31 – Christmas/New Year Food Traditions Around the World.
Indoor Disc Golf Games: We’re going to continue the fun of disc golf, but take it indoors for cooler weather months. There are a number of indoor games that can be played using disc golf equipment. Not sure what to expect? Come anyway for some fun and maybe you’ll meet a few new friends along the way. Turkey Bowling: Come and participate in Turkey Bowling on November 22 at 11 a.m. sponsored by the Northridge Health Center. Turkey bowling is fun, casual and even somewhat silly. Holiday Stress Relief: Holiday Stress Relief with Kip Cronk of Sky Green Yoga will be held December 17 at 10 a.m. Cost is $5. This unique program will demonstrate methods to reduce stress in our daily lives and throughout the holiday season. The program will include breathing techniques, meditation and chair yoga. Hanukkah-Kwanza-Boxing Day Celebration: The first day of Hanukkah, Kwanza and Boxing Day all fall on December 26. Join us at 12 p.m. on December 26 for this eclectic mash up celebration of multiple cultural holidays. You will learn about traditions from these celebrations while sampling foods. If you are looking for something fun and new to do the day after Christmas, come learn about traditions around the world. Cost is $5. RSVP by December 23.
Senior Fitness with Kathy Hungerman: Senior Fitness is a new class, with an emphasis on strength, flexibility, posture and falls prevention. Kathy has over 20 years experience teaching fitness classes, most recently at UH’s Avon Health Center. You will need to bring light weights (2 or 3 pounds) to class. The classes are held on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 9 a.m. until 9:50 a.m. Cost is $72 for six weeks (two days a week) or $36 for six weeks (one day a week). CardioDance Sessions: CardioDance offers a great workout to the hits of today and yesterday and is adaptable to a variety of fitness levels. Fall Session III is November 19 through December 31 (no class December 24); Winter Session I is January 7 through February 11. All sessions are 9-10 a.m. Each 6-week session is $36 per person. Chair Yoga with Kip Cronk: Chair Yoga is perfect for all ages and abilities – no experience necessary. In chair yoga we do not get down on the floor, but practice poses sitting in the chair or standing and using it as support. The benefits of yoga include relaxation, calming, range of motion, stretching, muscle building and balance. In yoga we allow our own body to be our guide. You are always welcome to modify a pose, come out of a pose or take a break as needed. Session III: November 12-December 3 • 10-11 a.m., $24 for four weeks. Senior Strong: Join us every Friday at 11 a.m. for Senior Strong. Senior Strong is a program that focuses on mental health wellness and building resilience in older adults. Cardio Drumming: Mondays at 11 a.m., $2 drop in fee, Location: Safetyville Building. Cardio Drumming is quickly growing in popularity and we are excited to offer this class. Participants are taken through routines using drumsticks in a variety of patterns to heart-pumping fun hits. You can do this activity standing or sitting in a chair. Blood Pressure Checks: Blood pressure checks are available on the first Wednesday of every month from 10:30 AM to 11:45 AM. Please stop in and see our lovely volunteer nurses. If you have your blood pressure logs or cards please bring them with you.

Senior Lunch and Bingo Every Wednesday: Midweek social is a lot of fun with lunch, cards and/or bingo! On Wednesdays come at 11:45 AM for a delicious hot lunch served at noon to include an entrée, dessert and beverage for $5. Reservations are required by calling (440) 490-2056 by noon on Tuesday.

Watercolors Wednesdays: Are you interested in art or just enjoy painting freestyle? Our art enthusiasts gather for painting and fun on Wednesday mornings and would love to have you join their group. Puzzle Exchange: The Senior Center will be hosting Puzzle Exchange the last Tuesday of each month from 11 a.m. – 1 p.m. Puzzled by what to do with those completed puzzles? Bring your stack of completed puzzles (limit of 3) and exchange with others or you are welcome to take as many as you’d like.
