The Foundation of the Lorain Public Library System, Inc. is hoping to raise funds for LPLS on National Library Giving Day April 6.
National Library Giving Day is an annual event that falls during National Library Week.
It began in Seattle and grew to a nationwide one-day fundraising event with the goal of encouraging people who depend on and enjoy public libraries to donate to their individual library or library system.
Libraries are known for books and research materials, but they also offer so much more. This year’s theme for National Library Week is “Connect with Your Library” and LPLS makes it easy to do. Connect to the past with genealogy resources and historical programs. Connect to technology with free hotspots for loan, tech clubs and one-on-one technical assistance appointments. Connect to kindergarten readiness with a multitude of programs and resources such as ABC Mouse, learning backpacks and Launchpads. Connect to continuing education with several online resources and skills assessments. Connect to the outdoors with nightsky binoculars, bird watching kits, bicycles for loan and several StoryWalk trails. Connect with culinary literacy through cookbooks, cookbook discussion groups, two urban farms and a whole host of cooking demonstration programs for all ages.
