Scoops for Safety: Encouraging Kids to Ride Smart This Summer

The North Ridgeville Police Department, Kiwanis Club of North Ridgeville and Culver’s of North Ridgeville are teaming up to encourage kids to make safe choices while riding their bikes this summer.

Through this program, police officers have issued a BOLO (be on the lookout) for kids “caught being safe” by wearing their bike helmets. Beginning June 1, when officers spot a young rider making a smart safety choice, that child may receive a special envelope with a coupon for a free scoop of Culver’s frozen custard.

The idea was introduced by the Kiwanis Club as a fun way to promote bike safety and reinforce positive habits. When Doug and Tammy, owners of Culver’s of North Ridgeville, were asked to donate 100 coupons, they generously provided 150. They also donated free tickets and parking passes to several Lake Erie Crushers games, giving some lucky kids an extra surprise in their Scoops for Safety envelope.

Thanks to this partnership, local children have another reason to wear their helmets, ride safely and enjoy a sweet reward along the way.
