Cynthia Curtin is a candidate for the 9th District Court of Appeals. A former judge of the Stow Municipal Court and current magistrate in the Summit County Domestic Relations Court, she has more than 35 years of legal experience. She has practiced in many courts throughout Ohio including U.S. District Court for both the Northern and Southern Districts, and the Sixth Circuit Court of Appeals.
She was appointed Judge of the Stow Municipal Court by Gov. DeWine in June 2025 to fulfill an unexpired term which ended on December 31, 2025. Prior to being a judge, she was a litigation attorney for over 35 years handling jury trials, appellate arguments, mediations and arbitrations. Throughout her career, Curtin represented individuals, small businesses, national retailers and insurance companies, defending matters involving motor vehicle liability, premises liability, products liability, property damage, worker’s comp, employment, SIU, insurance coverage and estate planning. Some representative clients included Home Depot, Walmart, the Cleveland Clinic, State Farm, Allstate, USAA and Met Life.
Curtin owned and managed her own law firm, a certified woman owned law firm, in Akron with her husband, Michael. Upon Michael’s sudden passing, in 2017, Curtin maintained the law firm for an additional five years and then closed the practice to join Perez – Morris in Cleveland. While at Perez- Morris, Curtin assisted national coordinating counsel. In this role, she worked with attorneys around the country in various state and federal courts defending premises liability cases.
She is a 50-year resident of Hudson, OH. Has two adult children, both married, living in Virginia. She received her B.S. in Business Administration from Indiana University, and J.D. from Cleveland State University. Having lived in Colombia, South America during her pre-teen years, she speaks Spanish and is familiar with the Latin culture.
