NR Police Issue Scam Warning

The police department continues to see a rise in schemes and frauds perpetrated against our residents.

Whether at home or work I remind you to stay vigilant to those trying to steal your money or information. When dealing with an uncertain, and often unique request (by phone, computer, in person), be certain to verify who you are sending money or information to before doing so. When in doubt, take the time to research the request and consult a supervisor or the police department before doing so. Our non emergency number is 440-327-2191.

Current scams that police are dealing with have centered around Covid, the IRS, wire transfers (example – Western Union) of money to assist injured or arrested family members, people wanting you to send pictures of the back side of purchased gift cards in exchange for something they are selling over the Internet, job sites that hire you to work from home and then you have to send them money for startup equipment or other things of that nature.

Thanks, Chief Freeman, NRPD
