North Ridgeville City Schools Hires Two Administrators

At the July 6, 2021, North Ridgeville City Schools Board of Education meeting, the board approved the hiring of Michelle Riley to become the associate principal at the North Ridgeville Academic Center and Chris Pelphrey to become the district’s coordinator of curriculum and instruction.

Riley spent the last six years at the Cleveland Metropolitan School District as an assistant principal for grades 9-12 and is currently the administrator on assignment for grades Pre-K-8.

During her tenure at CMSD Riley supervised after-school tutoring and implemented a student council and mentoring program for grades 6-8. She also provided Positive Behavior Intervention and Support (PBIS) of CHAMPS and coordinated award ceremonies each quarter to encourage high morale and to incorporate cultural rituals of student success.

Riley began her career in education as a reading recovery teacher at Prince George’s County Public Schools located in the state of Maryland. She spent 10 years teaching middle school English and language arts at Euclid City Schools and spent three years teaching ELA for the Shaker Heights City School District.

“It’s an honor and a privilege to work alongside other very successful and educated educators in the school district,” Riley said. “I plan to help our team become cohesive at the Academic Center, especially in curriculum and instruction and also with professional development.”

Pelphrey has been employed by the Educational Service Center of Northeast Ohio as a curriculum consultant for the past three years. He previously taught seventh-grade ELA for 10 years at Firelands Local Schools, was a part-time gifted and enrichment teacher at St. Jude School for a year, and was a project graduation instructor at Lorain County Community College for a year. Pelphrey replaces Dr. Heather Miller who was hired to become the director of curriculum and instruction for the district.

“I’m extremely excited to be part of the team, I look forward to getting to work,” Pelphrey said. “I’m hoping to make an impact on curriculum. I feel that there are some areas I am very comfortable with and there are initiatives I feel that are going to fit very nicely. For me it just seems like a fantastic fit with the colleagues and the values of North Ridgeville and the school district.”

During his time at Firelands, Pelphrey instituted and developed a building-wide PBIS program and was the middle school ELA department leader. He developed lessons focusing on common core standards and analyzed data from common, benchmark, and diagnostic assessments to drive instructional planning.

“The Board of Education was impressed with Ms. Riley’s and Mr. Pelphrey’s resume and what they have been able to accomplish throughout their academic careers,” Board of Education Vice President Marci Saxon said. “We were especially impressed by their implementation of educational programming that aligns with the district’s mission, vision, and core values.”

“Ms. Riley and Mr. Pelphrey exemplified a wide range of curriculum and instruction competencies, core competencies, and leadership skills,” Superintendent Roxann Ramsey-Caserio said. “Their accomplishments indicate how committed they are to serving students and ensuring they are successful inside and outside of the classroom.”

Riley and Pelphrey will begin their administrative duties on August 2, 2021.
