Recount Coming: Community Votes Down Issue 5 for North Ridgeville City Schools by 23 Votes.

Following the certification of election results this afternoon, the North Ridgeville City School District learned Issue 5 was defeated by 23 votes. Due to the narrow margin, there will be an automatic recount to be completed by 4:00 PM on Tuesday, May 23, 2023. Thank you to the Lorain County Board of Elections for their meticulous work over the last couple weeks to ensure all votes were accounted for. The failure of this bond issue will result in changes that affect our students and staff.

Superintendent Roxann Ramsey-Caserio said, “We have some tough decisions to make. We know more modular units will need to be purchased in order to educate our students. This also affects our curriculum, kindergarten program, bussing, and more. All of which directly affects the level of education we can provide our students. Unfortunately, we’ll have to see where this leads the district.”

The push for new buildings was partly due to the increasing need for updated technology and state of the art security systems. The district is aware of parents’ safety concerns. We are planning to make safety upgrades over the summer to enhance security using grant money. This includes installing doors on all the classrooms at Liberty Elementary, added security camera locations, additional door swipe access points, and updating the access control system at all buildings to better regulate visitor access. Safety of our students and staff is a top priority, and these are steps we can take with our current buildings to enhance security.
