Georgia, On My Mind: Getting Through the Long Days

Monthly thoughts from Councilwoman at Large Georgia Awig

With only 29 days in February it is no wonder the month went so fast. As one gets older it seems sometimes like the days are long but the weeks, months, and years are short. I usually have no difficulty occupying my days with calls, texts, emails, reading, and events although some days seem longer than others. FYI, I have found that I can make days shorter by sleeping more but try not to do too much of that as that does not seem to get things done.

Since our children and grandchildren live out of town, I try to occupy my days doing things so that I do not miss them so much. I always think what can I do today that will keep me from being bored or sad and maybe even cause me to make a difference in someone else’s life. Luckily I have a home based business that I can always work and am also involved in several community organizations. I can always find a reason to pick up the phone and call someone.

There are also lots of events to attend. I like to be kept busy so I do my best to plan my day with activities, some more active than others. I try to do those things which make me happy. Since I love people, most of my activities center around being or communicating with people. Those activities keep me from talking to myself which is not always positive. What will you do today to remain active or stay in touch with a friend?
