Excited for the upcoming eclipse? Planning a special business venture like selling food, setting up a temporary campground or creating celestial body art? Lorain County Public Health (LCPH) can help you to prepare as we count down to the eclipse on April 8, 2024 – just five weeks away.
“Events like the eclipse spark creative ideas and ways for people to connect,” said LCPH Health Commissioner Mark Adams, MPH, REHS. “Entrepreneurs can help prevent injury and sickness through their business ventures, specifically using the education they’ll receive through licensing.” If you’re planning to sell food, set up a campground or create body art (tattoos), you may need a license through LCPH. LCPH also works behind the scenes in preparation for the eclipse. LCPH is collaborating closely with Lorain County’s Emergency Management Agency (EMA) and other partners. “We host the public health committee for EMA, we’re helping with communication efforts to promote safe eclipse viewing, and we’ll be ready to respond to any public health emergency,” said Adams.
To alleviate traffic congestion on April 8, LCPH encourages everyone to make adjustments to their operations and errands. Plan ahead, and consider carpooling to community events. LCPH itself is planning adjusted operations, with some staff working virtually on that day. However, LCPH will remain open on April 8, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. to provide vital public health services including vaccines, naloxone rescue kits, birth and death certificates and permits at 9880 Murray Ridge Road in Elyria. Please note that the WIC clinics will be closed on April 8 and 9.
