Honoring Decades of Service

The City of North Ridgeville extends its sincere appreciation to Matt Downing on his retirement and for his many years of dedicated service to our community.

Sergeant Downing joined the North Ridgeville Police Department in February 1998. Prior to his service with the city, he honorably served our nation in the United States Navy for 11 years active duty and 32 years in the Reserve, retiring as a Command Master Chief.

During his time with the department, Sergeant Downing held numerous leadership and training roles, including Range Officer, Field Training Officer, Active Threat Training Coordinator, ELCERT (Eastern Lorain County Emergency Response Team) Commander and Training Officer. His experience, professionalism and steady leadership have made a lasting impact on the department and the community he served.

We thank Sergeant Downing for nearly three decades of commitment to public safety and wish him continued success in his next chapter.
