North Ridgeville City Schools Hold the Amazing Shake

Station #9, Persuasive Speech with Heather Johnson, Northridge Health Center and McKenzie Frum

On Thursday, February 1, all North Ridgeville seventh grade students took part in the first round of The Amazing Shake. This is a gauntlet style, skills competition where students get one minute at 15 different stations. These stations include customer service, making a doctor’s appointment, interviewing, and ordering from a menu, among others. Students are given a score based on how they perform at each station. The top 16 scorers from each group moved on to the next round.

There were four total rounds and four winners. The event organizer, Nikki Roth, says “We started this competition three years ago when things were returning to normal after Covid. We realized gaps had formed in the social skills of our students. We decided to go back to the basics by teaching them how to shake a hand, maintain eye contact while speaking and how to hold a conversation with an adult. We rely on nearly 90 judges from local businesses and the community to make this event possible. It truly takes a village.”
